Electrical Engineering Manager

About Helion

We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.

Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised $1.5 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors including Thrive Capital, LightSpeed Venture Capital, SoftBank, and others to propel us forward. Our current prototype, Polaris, has reached record-breaking plasma temperatures of 150 million degrees Celsius (13 keV). Helion is continuing to iterate and on the path to the world's first fusion power plant, Orion.

This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths – values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.

Why This Role Matters

Helion's pace depends on electrical teams that ship hardware fast without ever compromising safety at multi-megajoule energies. As a manager, you build and lead the team designing the pulsed-power circuits at the core of the machine — capacitor banks, switching, and protection. Your job is to make that team excellent: to grow engineers, set technical direction, and turn ambitious designs into commissioned hardware.

What You Will Be Doing

• Lead and grow a team of electrical engineers designing high-voltage and pulsed-power circuits.

• Own technical direction, execution, and delivery for your team's hardware.

• Coach, develop, and hire engineers; build a strong, fast, and safe engineering culture.

• Partner across mechanical, controls, systems, and test teams to deliver integrated hardware.

• Balance iteration speed with the rigor and safety that high-energy systems demand.

Required Skills

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

• Significant electrical engineering experience, including power electronics or high-voltage circuit design.

• People leadership experience (typically 2+ years managing engineers), and a track record of delivering complex electrical hardware.

• Strong technical judgment and the ability to lead engineers who are experts in their domains.

• Experience with pulsed power, capacitor banks, or high-voltage systems, and with fast-paced hardware development or early-stage team-building, is an asset.
