Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
What you will do
At Volvo Penta you will contribute to the development of electrified powertrain and energy distribution solutions for marine applications. You will:
- Review relevant marine standards and regulations, such as DNV and IEC, related to protective earthing (PE), grounding and charging systems.
- Develop a modular solution that ensures electrical isolation between PE and the 24 V negative supply (GND), while providing flexibility for future component integration.
- Design, build and test a laboratory-scale prototype to validate insulation performance, communication functionality, fault-clearing behaviour and corrosion mitigation.
Your future team
You will primarily work with the Mechanical Design and Energy Distribution team at Volvo Penta. The team develops electrified powertrain and energy distribution solutions for a broad range of marine and industrial applications. During your thesis, you will have cross-functional interactions with engineers working with electrical systems, charging and related technologies.
Who are you?
Do you dream big? We do too, and we are excited to grow together. In this role, you will bring:
- Master’s student in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Product Engineering or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of electrical driveline and grounding/earthing systems.
- Familiarity with galvanic isolation strategies, insulation monitoring devices (IMDs) and EMC.
- Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD or similar, and PCB design.
- Hands-on skills in prototyping and laboratory testing are a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, curiosity about marine electrification challenges, ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work at Volvo Penta office in Gothenburg 2-3 days per week
- High level of personal drive and enthusiasm to problem solve
- Analytical and curious problem-solver, able to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Strong English communication skills. Master thesis: 30 ECTS | Start: January 2027 | 1–2 students.
What’s in it for you?
We offer a solid package of compensation and benefits, plus you will enjoy:
- A diverse work environment and close collaboration with experienced Volvo Penta engineers.
