Product Designer

At the heart of everything we do is our vision to change lives every day, and our mission to grow The National Lottery responsibly and champion its impact.

We are Allwyn UK, part of the Allwyn Entertainment Group – a multi-national lottery operator with a market-leading presence across the USA (Michigan and Illinois) and Europe, including Czech Republic, Austria, Greece, Cyprus and Italy.

While the main contribution of The National Lottery to society is through the funds to good causes, at Allwyn we put our purpose and values at the heart of everything we do.  Join us as we embark on a once-in-a-lifetime, largescale transformation journey by creating a National Lottery that delivers more money to good causes.

We’ll talk a bit more about us further down the page, but for now – let’s talk about the role and who we’re looking for…

A bit about the role

As a Senior Product Designer – Design System, you’ll be involved in the day-to-day governance of our design system foundations, components and templates, ensuring each product squad follows established processes for the re-use of existing components while contributing to the evolution of new patterns where required. You'll be the champion of the design system and, alongside the wider product design team, help drive education, understanding and adoption across the business.

You'll play a key role in ensuring the design system scales effectively alongside our digital products, balancing consistency, accessibility and efficiency across web and app experiences. Working closely with Product, Engineering and Content Design, you'll help shape the future vision of the design system whilst ensuring it remains practical, relevant and valuable to the squads using it every day.

What you’ll be doing

• Overseeing the governance and documentation of our foundations, components and templates, ensuring the design system maximises consistency and remains the single source of truth for the product design team.
• Driving the design system to the next level through close collaboration with Engineering, including connecting the component library to code through tokenisation.
• Supporting the evolution of Figma libraries, foundations and component architecture to ensure scalability across a growing portfolio of products and experiences.
• Maintain and build upon existing ways of working, ensuring each squad contributes to the design system vision and strategy.
• Work within the Design System product squad to deliver against its roadmap and actively contribute to quarterly planning sessions to align priorities.
• Feed into bringing new AI tooling to increase efficiencies across the squads.
• Identify opportunities to improve adoption, reduce duplication and drive greater consistency across product teams.
• Help enforce design standards across each product squad.
• Drive the design system roadmap forward alongside Engineering towards a fully scaled solution
• Promote best practice across accessibility, usability and interaction design to ensure our design system supports high-quality player experiences.

What experience we’re looking for

• Industry leader in Figma.
• Extensive experience creating, evolving and governing design systems within a complex digital environment.
• Demonstrable experience maintaining and scaling a design system.
• Strong understanding of component-based design, design tokens and the relationship between design systems and front-end development.
• Excellent attention to detail with a passion for consistency, quality and usability.

Key Measures of Success:

• Increased adoption and utilisation of the design system across product squads.
• Design system components, foundations and templates are accurate, documented and consistently applied across products and journeys.
• Successful delivery of the Design System roadmap, aligned to product and engineering priorities.

About us

At Allwyn, we are dedicated to changing lives and growing the National Lottery responsibly, championing its positive impact on people, places, and the planet.

• Innovation - We pride ourselves on it! We’re constantly looking for new ways to excite our customers, bringing new products to market to enjoy which is all supported by our responsible play values and making them accessible to all.

• Giving back – Did you know that playing the lottery generates around £30m a week for charities and good causes in the UK? Our aim is to have doubled this number by the end of the first 10-year license.

• Sustainability – Our aim is to become a net zero national lottery. We have 2030 targets to decarbonise our operations and energy. We’ve already transitioned to renewable energy providers, made our London and Watford offices zero gas, and ensured our fleet consists of low-emission vehicles. In addition, we’re working with our value chain partners to develop a net zero target date.

• Empowering every voice – We believe in creating a culture where everyone feels they belong, can be themselves, has access to opportunities and can thrive for the benefit of good causes.  Our diverse teams are working hard to make all parts of The National Lottery inclusive – whether people play a game in a store or online, because when everyone can play, everyone wins..
