Technical Product

Metabase is the easiest way for people to get insights from their data, from tiny startups who get up and running quickly to major corporations with tens of thousands of users. That's why people love us.   We bring data tools with the elegance and simplicity of consumer products to the crufty world of enterprise business intelligence. We provide an opinionated open source starting point for how companies should measure, analyze and share their data, which is used by tens of thousands of companies.

We’re looking for exceptional Technical Product Leads to help shape what we build and why.

This is a highly technical, user-focused product role for people who want to work closely with both customers and builders to influence product direction. The scope will evolve with the product and team.

What you'll do

• Talk directly to customers to understand how they use the product and where it falls short
• Build a deep understanding of user workflows, especially in data-heavy environments
• Identify and clearly define the most important problems to solve
• Turn those insights into clear proposals for product direction
• Move across engineering teams, focusing on where context is most useful
• Work closely with engineers and design to shape solutions and tradeoffs
• Bring clarity to ambiguous problems so teams can move quickly and make good decisions

How this role fits

Product is led directly by our CEO. You’ll work closely with him, along with engineering and design leadership, to shape direction and priorities.

Technical Product Leads contribute to roadmap discussions and help guide what gets built through strong problem definition and customer insight. Engineering Managers plan and execute the work.

What we’re looking for

• Strong technical foundation (e.g., engineering or similarly technical experience)
• Hands-on experience working with data tools (e.g., querying, modeling, or building with data)
• Ability to understand user needs and translate them into clear problem definitions
• Strong product judgment - what’s worth solving, what isn’t, and why
• Comfortable working closely with engineers on feasibility and tradeoffs
• Able to operate with high judgment in ambiguous environments
• Clear thinker and communicator, especially when simplifying complex ideas

You should be able to quickly build context, form strong opinions, and contribute at a high level.

Additional strengths

• Experience working on data-heavy or technical products
• Experience building or leading complex projects or initiatives
• Track record of taking ownership and operating with autonomy Compensation
The US base salary range for this role is $102K–$200K annually, plus equity and benefits.
Compensation is determined by role, level, location, and individual qualifications, including skills, experience, and scope of responsibility. Pay may vary by geographic location and other job-related factors.
  Benefits
We offer meaningful equity and a comprehensive US benefits package, including fully employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance (with 75% coverage for dependents), a 401(k) with employer match available to enroll after the first 30 days, flexible and unlimited paid time off including sick time, and an asynchronous, remote-first environment.
We're a global team (50% outside the US), fully distributed (from Thailand to California), who get things done asynchronously, with plenty of uninterrupted time, supporting each other to do the best work of our careers. We offer flexibility (define your own schedule and work from wherever you want), autonomy, and an environment that fosters growth, learning, and development. We're relentlessly user-focused and believe in building long-term value, not short-term hacks. And we raised a $30M Series B to take our approach to the next level for years to come.   For U.S. applicants: Metabase participates in the federal E-Verify program, which confirms employment authorization of newly hired U.S. based employees.
