Head of Software

About Lumafield:    Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.   We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.   Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.   We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and powerful insights. And then we'll upgrade it all again.   Lumafield is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. and has an office in Cambridge, MA.
About the role:

Lumafield's scanners produce the data. Voyager is where that data becomes a decision - with nothing but a web browser, anyone can visualize, analyze, and share industrial CT data globally.

We're hiring a Head of Software to own Voyager end-to-end: the software development teams building it and the platform engineering group running the cloud and edge compute underneath. You'll inherit a high-performance team in San Francisco and be tasked with continuously raising the bar. As Lumafield grows, you’ll play a critical role with shaping the org to follow: lead the leaders, own high-stake decisions, and carry on a culture that never settles.

This is a hands-on leadership role at a company obsessed with finding the right solution for its customers. You set the bar, scale the team as the company grows, and drive solutions to our hardest problems.

What you'll do:

• Align technical direction with business objectives and own the outcome: when to take the big bet, what to focus on when, and how the roadmap distills into priority calls
• Drive the technical developments that solve our customers' hardest problems, from architecture through release
• Scale and lead the Platform Engineering function - CI/CD, observability, edge compute, and the cloud cost curve
• Hire and develop the leadership layer under you
• Set the operating cadence and hold the team to commitment dates that engineering, product, and sales can plan against
• Own the software side of Lumafield's security and compliance posture: SBOM, vulnerability response, customer security reviews, and compliance controls

About you:

• You've led multi-level software engineering organizations at a startup, including managing managers, and you've done it through at least one phase change in company size or product maturity
• You've owned a production SaaS platform end to end: uptime, on-call, release engineering, and the infrastructure bill. You know what your cloud spend is and why
• You have real depth in cloud infrastructure and DevOps - deep enough to review a platform design, reject a bad one, and explain the company-level tradeoff behind the call
• You know what it takes to deploy solutions in the cloud and on premises. Performance deltas and reliability are proactive motions, not afterthoughts
• You define what done means, you unblock the team, and you are well versed in Radical Candor
• You love startups. You're highly engaged, you control the chaos, you rally when it's crunch time, and you love working through ambiguity

Bonus:

• Experience with FedRAMP, ITAR/CMMC, or another regulated deployment environment where the compliance work is on the critical path to revenue.
• A background in 3D data, imaging, visualization, or metrology software — voxels, meshes, large-file pipelines, GPU rendering in the browser. Lumafield offers both competitive cash and equity compensation, as well as a health & wellness stipend, 401k, parental leave, flexible PTO, commuter benefits, company wide events and more!    Lumafield is committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, because the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. Do you feel like your skills don’t meet every single requirement listed? We encourage you to apply anyway – If you’re excited about our technology, the opportunity, and are eager to learn more we’d love to hear from you!     In keeping with our beliefs and goals, no employee or applicant will face discrimination or harassment based on: race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, age, gender, marital domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, genetic information or veteran status.    Reach out if you want to be a part of what we are building.
