Inventory and Asset Management Officer

The context:

Across the developing world, more children than ever are in school – but they are not learning. A recent study estimated that less than 1% of school children in Sub-Saharan Africa attend a school where the teaching meets basic standards of quality. At Rising Academies, we’re changing that, and we want your help. Our mission is to create the best schools and the most powerful teaching and learning tools for the people that need it most. We’re one of the fastest-growing quality-focused education companies in Africa, and a Certified B Corp®.

About us:

Founded in Sierra Leone in 2014, we’ve spent over a decade developing a unique blend of high-tech and low-tech solutions that dramatically improve learning outcomes and strengthen teaching quality at scale. Across seven rigorous randomized controlled trials, students in Rising-supported schools have learned, on average, 2.4x faster each year than their peers in comparable schools.

Today, we support more than 400,000 students across 1,400 public schools in West and East Africa, working alongside governments to strengthen teaching and learning at scale. Our approach combines structured curriculum, ongoing coaching for teachers and school leaders, and real-time data to drive consistent improvements in classrooms and across every level of public education systems.

Our model is designed to be practical and scalable. We work with and through government systems, adapting our level of support to each context - from hands-on implementation to system-level quality assurance - ensuring that improvements are sustainable and cost-effective over time.

Technology and AI play an important role in this work, not as standalone products, but as tools that strengthen delivery, lower the cost of implementation, and help systems continuously improve at scale. You can learn more about our solutions here: https://www.risingacademies.com/oursolutions

About the role:

Rising Academies is looking for a highly organised and dependable Inventory and Asset Management Officer to ensure that tablets, accessories and programme materials are securely stored, accurately recorded and fully traceable throughout their lifecycle. Strong warehouse and asset controls are essential to getting the right materials to programmes on time while safeguarding valuable resources.

The role will own the day-to-day inventory register, physical counts, asset tagging, storage organisation, dispatches, returns and supporting documentation. Working closely with Operations and relevant programme and technical teams, the postholder will keep stock information current, identify discrepancies or shortages early, and make sure every movement and handover is properly documented.

The Inventory and Asset Management Officer will:

• Maintain an accurate inventory and asset register, complete the opening count and monthly physical counts, and promptly investigate and reconcile discrepancies to maintain at least 98% agreement with the register.
• Receive and verify incoming stock, record new receipts within two business days, tag assets before dispatch, and ensure all supporting documents are complete and properly filed.
• Organize and clearly label warehouse storage zones by item type and status so stock can be located, counted and managed efficiently.
• Maintain the warehouse access log and complete a weekly safety and security check, escalating security incidents within 24 hours.
• Monitor spare stock and stock availability, identify shortages or unusual movements, and escalate shortages within one business day.
• Prepare approved in-stock requests within three business days and complete dispatch and handover records so every item leaving the warehouse is traceable.
• Record returns within one business day, separate items by condition and status, and hand faulty devices to the relevant technical team within two business days for repair or follow-up.
• Maintain clear, auditable documentation for receipts, counts, transfers, dispatches, returns and repairs, including both digital and physical records where required.
• Share a concise stock update each Friday, highlighting balances, movements, outstanding issues and actions requiring follow-up, and coordinate promptly with relevant teams to resolve them.

Location and reporting:

This is a full-time, Rwanda-based position. The Inventory and Asset Management Officer will report to Procurement and Supply Chain Coordinator and will work closely with Operations, programme and technical teams

Application deadline:

The target start-date for this role will be Mid-November 2026.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in supply chain management, logistics, procurement, management with education, business administration, operations or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, stores, asset management, logistics or a similar role.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining stock or asset registers, conducting physical counts and reconciling discrepancies.
• Strong working knowledge of spreadsheets and digital record-keeping tools, with the ability to maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready documentation.
• Practical experience with receiving, asset tagging, dispatch, returns and stock handovers; experience handling tablets, electronics or other high-value assets is an advantage.
• Good understanding of basic warehouse safety, security, access control and stock-handling procedures.

About You:

• You are highly organised and detail-oriented, and you take pride in records that are accurate, complete and easy for others to verify.
• You are trustworthy and careful with valuable assets, follow agreed controls consistently and raise discrepancies or risks quickly.
• You are proactive and dependable, able to manage recurring routines and time-bound tasks without needing constant follow-up.
• You communicate clearly and collaborate well across Operations, programme and technical teams, especially when coordinating stock movements and resolving issues.
• You are a practical problem-solver who can prioritise competing requests while maintaining strong documentation and control standards.
