Technical Product Owner

Company Overview

Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas. These include airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, special air missions, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation. We own the whole stack: designing, building, and operating turnkey capabilities that give our partners decisive, asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.

Our operating model is built around three interlocking pillars. The Support Groups provide a global shared-service – spanning people, finance, platform, operations, legal, and engagement. This frees up our Core Groups, who develop and own mission capabilities end-to-end, to focus entirely on delivery. The Market Groups apply a regional lens, ensuring that our agile and adaptable capabilities remain aligned to the wicked problems that matter most to our partners across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific.

At the heart of our model is a simple but powerful idea: be a true partner with skin in the game. Our partners need effects, not just equipment. By owning the full stack – from the lab to the field – we are able to drive a continuous cycle of innovation that keeps our partners ahead. It's a fast-moving, intellectually demanding environment where talented people are given real responsibility, work on problems that matter, and contribute to an enterprise that is growing quickly and deliberately.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, with facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, as well as Continental Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Position Summary

We are looking for a technically minded product Owner to shape the developer platform, SDKs and tools used by Metrea teams to build advanced real-time simulations.

You will have a key role in maximising the value of our SDK platforms that accelerate development teams to build better and faster. You will report to the Product Lead, owning the roadmaps and backlogs that translate the broader strategy and OKRs into actionable features and priorities for the development teams.

You can define what good looks like across APIs, documentation, samples and tools. You will balance business goals, customer needs and engineering implications, driving priorities across multiple agile teams.

What You'll Do

• Focus on product strategy, discovery and value delivery rather than project delivery and coordination.
• Able to support the product lead in key decision making by sharing clear product data such as user feedback, technical implications and market awareness.
• You will be accountable for adoption of the developer platform, including its SDK, using feedback and evidence to understand whether it is helping teams build simulation products faster, more reliably and to a higher standard.
• Conduct discovery with developers, simulation specialists, subject-matter experts and relevant customer stakeholders to understand needs, validate problems and shape product direction.
• Translate business strategy into clear product goals for the team through roadmaps and backlog prioritisation.
• Collaborate with developers, artists, designers, and simulation engineers working in game engine environments (e.g. Unreal Engine).
• Ensure product alignment with long term architecture goals, interoperability standards, and Defence compliance needs.

What You Bring

• 4+ years’ product experience building developer platforms or SDK products.
• Experience in product strategy and demonstrable value delivery based on your leadership.
• Ability to break down and communicate complex ideas, features and products in a clear and articulated manner to stakeholders and development teams.
• You have a keen product sense on what makes an API intuitive, what is good documentation and what makes a distributed package reliable.
• Experience translating between technical and product discussions with development teams. You will not be expected to write production code.
• Highly organised and proactive with experience owning and prioritising backlogs across multiple technical teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills that promote clarity even with complex subjects.
• Understands the challenges working with cross-functional teams of developers, artists, and designers.

In addition to the above, any of the following would be beneficial:

• Has a development or technical background and/or a computer science degree.
• Understand the implications of agile processes and methodologies.
• Interest or experience in real-time 3D, simulation, training systems or synthetic environments.
• Interest or experience in defense, aviation, military technology or government environments.
• Familiarity with Unreal Engine or another game engine.

Our Firmware

At Metrea, our single core value is Rooted in Humility, and our four cornerstone attributes are Entrepreneurial, Systematic, Discerning, and Over-Deliver. These form what we call our Teammate Firmware. Just like technical firmware connects software and hardware, our Firmware is the constant interface between our mission and our people. It defines how we show up, how we work together, and how we solve complex problems.

Our team Firmware creates a web-like, hyper-collaborative, dynamically hierarchical way of working that helps us adapt quickly, communicate openly, and distribute decision-making to where expertise actually lives. It enables groups to self-organize around hard problems, shift fluidly as priorities evolve, and operate with the trust, curiosity, and discipline required in a complex mission space. This foundation allows us to deliver elegant, effective solutions and uphold our purpose: protecting our precious inheritance.
