About the role
In the People Advisor role, you’ll work closely with the HRBP and wider People team to deliver a proactive, high-quality People service across Swap. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, providing practical guidance and support across employee relations, performance management, manager coaching and the wider employee lifecycle. Combining hands-on HR expertise with a solutions-focused approach, you’ll help managers navigate complex people matters confidently, ensure consistent and compliant People practices across our global teams, and drive continuous improvement through data, technology and automation as Swap continues to scale.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations
-
Support and, where appropriate, lead employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, absence management, flexible working and family leave. Use sound judgement and discretion, and escalate complex or high-risk cases to the HRBP.
-
Own probation and absence management end to end, giving managers and employees practical, timely advice and escalating more complex matters.
Manager Coaching & Capability
-
Coach and support managers to handle people issues confidently and consistently, including performance management, calibration, capability development and challenging conversations.
-
Partner with People Managers to provide 1:1 coaching, support and guidance on employee relations issues, in support of the HRBP.
Employee Lifecycle & People Operations
-
Act as the day-to-day point of contact for employees and managers on HR questions across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, policy interpretation, benefits and performance management, working alongside the People Operations team.
-
Lead on family leave and flexible working requests.
-
Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems, and help build out People processes and documentation.
-
Help coordinate and run core HR cycles, including performance reviews, compensation planning and engagement surveys.
Compliance
- Help ensure compliance with employment law and best practice across the UK, Europe and the US, in consultation with the HRBP and external counsel as needed.
Continuous Improvement
- Work with the People Operations team to drive continuous improvement across the People function. Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve workflows, and use AI and automation to create efficiency and free up time for more strategic partnering.
Requirements
-
CIPD Level 3 (or equivalent qualification or experience).
-
3–5 years’ HR generalist or advisory experience, ideally in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
-
Confident and knowledgeable enough to manage employee relations issues independently, with sound judgement on when to escalate.
-
A proactive, solutions-oriented approach and a track record of taking initiative.
-
Exposure to multi-jurisdiction employment matters is an advantage, given Swap Commerce’s footprint across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, the US, Israel, Spain and Canada.
-
Strong technical capability and data literacy, and comfort using data and technology to inform decisions and drive efficiency.
