Software Engineering Manager

About Crexi

Commercial real estate is one of the largest asset classes on earth and one of the last to go digital. Deals still get done over email threads, PDFs, and relationships nobody can search for. Crexi is the exchange betting that doesn't have to be true anymore: we're building the platform where an entire industry finds, evaluates, and closes deals, and we're betting hard on AI to get there faster than anyone thought this industry could move. There's no playbook for turning a trillion-dollar, relationship-driven industry into a modern marketplace which means the people building it get to write it.

About the Role:

As the Manager, Software Engineering, you'll lead a team of software engineers — owning delivery, quality, and the growth of the people on your team. This is a true player-coach role: you'll balance hands-on technical oversight with real people leadership, staying close enough to the code to guide it while building an environment where your team does their best work. You'll partner closely with Product and Design to ship high-impact work, and your team's output will directly shape reliable, high-quality product capabilities for Crexi.

What You'll Do:

• Lead, develop, and grow a team of software engineers, owning performance and development through the Engagement Review framework, including Success Plans where needed.
• Own the team’s delivery, quality, and operational health, partnering with product and design on roadmap and priorities.
• Provide technical oversight and guidance, ensuring sound architecture, code quality, and engineering standards.
• Drive team planning, execution cadence, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
• Leads by example with AI-assisted development tooling to improve quality and velocity.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard engineers, and foster an inclusive, high-performing team culture.
• Remove blockers and manage cross-team dependencies to keep delivery on track.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years managing engineers preferred.

Who You Are:

• Proven track record managing and developing software engineering teams.
• Strong enough technically to guide architecture decisions and jump into code reviews when it matters.
• Experience owning delivery, quality, and the operational health of a team.
• A driver of modern, AI-assisted engineering practices — you lead adoption, not just permit it.
• A clear, confident communicator who can distill complex information for stakeholders at any level of the organization.
• A sharp analytical thinker who can spot patterns in complex information and turn them into clear, actionable insight.
• Highly organized, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines without dropping the ball.
• A self-starter who owns outcomes independently and drives initiative without waiting to be asked.
• Responsive and proactive — you spot issues before they become problems and act fast.
• A creative problem-solver who can weigh tradeoffs and land on the right solution.
• A strong collaborator who builds real working relationships across teams.
• Trusted with sensitive and confidential information, handled with professionalism and discretion.
