Pr And Communications Manager

Senior PR and Communications Manager

Location: Playa Vista, CA (in-person, 5 days/week)

The return lane isn’t going to build itself. Come build it with us.

Outpost is an orbital logistics company rewriting the rules of global logistics by building reusable Earth-return vehicles that unlock in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, and 60-minute global delivery through space.

Our CarryAll vehicle family returns payloads ranging from 200 kilograms to 10 metric tons, lands within 10 meters of its target, and can then be refurbished and launched again. One vehicle, many missions: responsive logistics and precision delivery for national security; commercial cargo moved with real cadence; R&D payloads flown, tested, and refined across repeatable cycles; and critical aid delivered where roads and runways can’t reach.

The demand is already here, validated through defense and civil agreements and supported by a growing pipeline of government and commercial customers.

We have the customers, the team, and a clear technical path ahead of us. We’re building the return lane. Come build it with us.

 The Role

We’re hiring a Senior PR & Communications Manager to build and run Outpost’s day-to-day earned media and editorial function. You’ll turn complex technical and program updates into clear, compelling stories, proactively pitch media, and help shape consistent messaging across external channels. This is a hands-on role for someone who moves fast, follows through, and can operate calmly under pressure. The ideal candidate would own the social function at first, managing posts and messaging across platforms while additional support is brought on.  You’ll partner closely with leadership, engineering, and operations, and the larger marketing department in supporting launches, demos, partnerships, and key company moments with strong narrative, tight execution, and smart judgment.

Responsibilities

• Own earned media execution: build and run a proactive media pipeline (pitching, follow-ups, briefing docs, interview prep, coverage tracking)
• Develop Outpost narratives: refine and maintain core messaging, boilerplate, FAQs, and proof points for customers, investors, and government/defense stakeholders
• Create high-impact comms assets: press releases, statements, bylines, talking points, media kits, website copy, and “What is Outpost?”-style scripts/decks
• Manage press operations: handle inbound inquiries, coordinate interviews, prep spokespeople, and support press moments around major milestones
• Support campaigns & events: coordinate PR outreach for demos, conferences, facility visits, and thought leadership opportunities
• Executive communications support: ghostwrite or draft comms for executives as needed (internal notes, external statements, social-ready language)
• Measure and improve: track results (coverage quality, share of voice, message pull-through), report insights, and iterate

Qualifications

• 5+ years in PR/communications (in-house and/or agency), with a track record of landing meaningful earned coverage
• Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, robotics, or other deep-tech sectors
• Strong media instincts: you know what’s news, how to angle a story, and how to build relationships with journalists/producers
• Excellent writing/editing: crisp, accurate, fast—across press releases, talking points, web copy, and exec voice
• Comfort translating technical material into clear narratives (engineering-led products, hard-tech, or complex programs)
• Strong judgment under pressure; able to support sensitive, fast-moving situations with a risk-aware lens
• Highly organized self-starter who can manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion
• Collaborative working style with cross-functional teams (engineering, ops, leadership, marketing)

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with government stakeholders and constraints (e.g., ITAR/EAR, export controls, IP sensitivity)
• Ability to capture/produce lightweight content (photo/video, basic editing) or strong instincts working with designers/producers
• Comfort using analytics to evaluate content and PR performance

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive compensation: $145,000 – $180,000; (commensurate with experience).

• Additional Compensation:  Annual performance-based bonuses that reward your impact.

• Shared upside: Meaningful equity in Outpost so you share directly in the value you help create.

• Comprehensive healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision coverage to keep you and your loved ones covered. We cover the base tier of medical insurance and all premiums of vision and dental.

• Protection when it matters: Company-provided short- and long-term disability coverage for peace of mind, plus life insurance for even more security.

• PTO: Recharge on your own terms with paid time off, plus 9 days of paid holidays.

• Fueled for the mission: Daily DoorDash lunch stipend, plus unlimited snacks, coffee, and tea to keep you energized.

• Mission that matters: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with leaders from aerospace, new space, and deep-tech industries building the future of orbital infrastructure.

• Pet Friendly Office: Bring your furry friend into the office so that they can be a part of our mission too.

• Monthly Company Happy Hours and Events: Drinks at the local bar, hibachi nights, mini golfing and more!
