Fp&a Manager

Fortera is transforming one of the world’s largest industries by reinventing how cement is made. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, Fortera has developed next-generation cement technology that delivers high performance while reducing CO₂ emissions by up to ~70%. By mineralizing CO₂ and turning it into a productive feedstock, Fortera converts emissions into a valuable building material, creating a more sustainable path for modern construction.

With our commercial ReCarb® plant operating in Redding, California, and a growing global project pipeline, Fortera is moving from first-of-a-kind deployment to scaled commercialization. Our technology is already being used in real-world infrastructure applications, bringing next-generation cement into use today while expanding toward broader adoption.

At Fortera, you’ll work alongside scientists, engineers, operators, and industry experts who are turning cutting-edge materials science into real-world impact. We’re looking for curious thinkers, builders, and problem-solvers who want to help tackle one of the biggest challenges facing our planet.

This is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to help shape the future of sustainable construction.

THE ROLE:

We're hiring an FP&A Manager to help build the financial planning and reporting foundation Fortera will rely on as it scales from a single plant to a portfolio of them. You'll own the annual operating budget process, build the forecasts leadership relies on, and bring that same discipline to the capital budgets behind the plants we finance and build.

This is a small team, so you won't be maintaining someone else's process. You'll be setting up the systems, templates, models, and cadences that the rest of the business plans and reports around. You'll work with department heads to pull budgets together, track spend against plan with the Capital Projects team, and turn that analysis into monthly reporting packages, board materials, investor reporting, and lender reporting.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys that kind of environment. You know your craft, but you're also curious about the business beyond the numbers. You don't need everything handed to you. You see something that could work better and think, "I can fix that." You're comfortable asking questions, getting into the details, and building structure where it doesn't exist yet. Experience with capital-intensive or scaling businesses is a plus, but just as important is the ability to learn quickly, take ownership, and see your work make a real impact as Fortera grows.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Operating Budgets

• Lead the annual operating budget process across departments.
• Build and maintain monthly and quarterly forecasts.
• Consolidate departmental inputs into a full company P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet outlook.
• Track actuals versus budget and forecast, and explain the key drivers behind variances.
• Work with department heads to understand business drivers and develop realistic financial assumptions.

Capital Project Budgets

• Develop and maintain detailed capital project budgets by project, phase, and cost category.
• Track committed costs, actual spend, forecast to complete, and total project cost.
• Monitor budget changes, contingencies, change orders, and timing shifts.
• Produce capital spend forecasts by month, quarter, and project lifecycle.
• Identify cost overruns, schedule-related budget impacts, and funding risks early.
• Prepare budget, forecast, and reporting packages required by lenders for capital projects.
• Maintain reporting support for draw requests and budget-to-actual reporting.
• Work closely with the Capital Projects team to understand project progress and its financial impact.

Reporting & Forecasting

• Prepare monthly reporting packages for leadership.
• Support executive presentations for leadership, the board, investors, and lenders.
• Build short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts.
• Provide financial analysis and modeling to support business decisions and planning.

Systems & Process

• Leverage SAP S/4HANA data and reporting structures to prepare budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and capital project spend reports, and ensure planning outputs are aligned with financial actuals.
• Establish standardized templates and timelines for business partners to submit budget requests and project updates, and build and improve the processes and reporting cadence that support the full FP&A lifecycle as Fortera grows.
• Work closely with Accounting, Capital Projects, R&D, Engineering, and other teams to understand the business and its financial drivers.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR**:**

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting, or a related analytical role.
• Experience owning a budgeting or forecasting process across multiple departments or stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling ability. You can build a budget or forecast model from a blank sheet, and you can explain and defend every assumption in it.
• Strong analytical judgment. You know when a number looks wrong, and you chase it down before anyone asks.
• Comfort with ambiguity. We're a scaling company. You can take a loosely defined question, scope it yourself, know what questions to ask, and come back with a structured answer.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Able to communicate and work closely with technical teams, including R&D and engineering, and build a working understanding of the company's technology and production process.
• High level of ownership, attention to detail, and sound financial judgment.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with capital project budgeting or project finance in a capital-intensive industry such as manufacturing, industrials, energy, or infrastructure.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA or a comparable ERP system.
• Experience preparing budget, forecast, or diligence materials for lenders, investors, or a board.
• Experience supporting capital project financing, draw requests, or lender reporting.
• Experience building FP&A processes and systems in a scaling or growth-stage company.
• Comfortable with AI and have incorporated it into your work.

WHY THIS ROLE**:**

• Build something that doesn't exist yet. You'll have real ownership in building Fortera's FP&A function, including the processes, models, and reporting infrastructure the company will rely on as it scales.
• Be close to the decisions. You'll work directly with the CFO, Controller, and executive team and see how financial analysis translates into real business decisions.
• Work at the intersection of finance and technology. You'll partner with R&D, Engineering, and Capital Projects and develop a firsthand understanding of the technology and plants we're building.
• See the impact of your work. The budgets and forecasts you build will help inform decisions about capital investments, new plants, and how Fortera scales.
• Have a voice. We're a small team, which means your ideas, judgment, and initiative can have an outsized impact on how we work.
• Join us while we're still building. If you like figuring things out, creating structure, rolling up your sleeves, and seeing your work make a tangible difference, you'll have plenty of opportunity to do that here.

Fortera is building a fundamentally different approach to cement, and we're doing it at a stage where the work you do today can shape what the company looks like tomorrow.
