Associate Community Manager

SoundCloud empowers artists, tastemakers and fans to connect and share through music. Founded in 2007, SoundCloud is a creator-first platform helping artists build and grow their careers by providing them with the most advanced tools, services, and resources. With over 4x the music catalog of every other major streaming platform, spanning 40+ million artists across 190+ countries, SoundCloud is where emerging artists find their sound, hidden gems are discovered, and music culture is shaped in real time.   SoundCloud is looking for a part-time Associate Community Manager to be an active, recognizable presence in SoundCloud's Discord. Serving as a key touchpoint between music creators, fans, and our internal teams, you will help cultivate vibrant and active music communities. You should have a deep connection to SoundCloud, emerging trends, and underground music, paired with experience in engaged online communities like Discord. This role requires moving fast in real time, navigating community challenges, and maintaining an active presence in the server.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily Presence & Conversation: Facilitate in-server conversation, welcome new members, and run daily prompts to build and maintain a healthy community.
• Cultural Curation: Bring current trends on SoundCloud, underground music, emerging genres, and internet culture into the server. Surface what's bubbling and help members find it first. Support community programming, events, and listening parties.
• On-Camera & Brand Presence: Act as a recognizable personality within the community. Help host live streams, town halls, Q&As, stage channels, and creator spotlights on-camera and in voice channels.
• Real-Time Moderation & Problem Solving: Monitor community health, moving swiftly to address member concerns, diffuse conflicts, and escalate when needed.
• Community Advocacy: Be a visible point of contact for members in the server. Surface feedback and community sentiment to the wider team.
• Growth & Engagement: Support community events, contests, and exclusive drops that deepen how members engage with SoundCloud.

Experience and Background:

• Discord Fluency: Hands-on experience moderating, managing and growing digital communities, specifically on Discord. You understand roles, channels, threads, stage channels, and you’re comfortable using moderation and utility bots day to day.
• Cultural Alignment: Genuine passion for underground music scenes, emerging artist movements, and internet culture. Active SoundCloud user.
• On-Camera Confidence: Natural comfort being on video, hosting live streams, speaking publicly, and engaging directly with members in real time.
• Agility & Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to act fast in real-time environments.
• Self-Direction: Proactive and comfortable leading conversation without being told what to post.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience working at a music tech platform, record label, streaming service, or creator-economy startup.
• Experience organizing virtual events, listening sessions, or stage performances inside Discord or adjacent platforms (Twitch, YouTube).

The salary range for this role is $26 hourly. The final salary offered will be determined based on relative experience, skills, internal equity, and location. This is a temporary part-time role (20hrs/week) for 3 months.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at SoundCloud

SoundCloud is for everyone. Diversity and open expression are fundamental to our organization; they help us lead what’s next in music by understanding and empowering our creators and fans, no matter their identity. We acknowledge the challenges in the music industry, and strive to influence an inclusive culture where everyone can contribute respectfully and thrive, especially the historically marginalized communities that many of our creators, fans and SoundClouders identify with. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment at SoundCloud for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, migration background, national origin, age, disability status, or care-giver status.

At SoundCloud you can find your community or elevate your allyship by joining a Diversity Resource Group. Diversity Resource Groups are employee-organized groups focused on supporting and promoting the interests of a particular underrepresented community in order to build a more inclusive culture at SoundCloud. Anyone can join, whether you share the identity or strive to be an ally.
