We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer / Drafter to support the ASME Outside Sourced Production (OSP) business by creating and maintaining accurate manufacturing drawings, models, bills of material, and controlled engineering documentation for pressure vessels and related products. This role reports to the Program Manager and works closely with the ASME Design Engineer, Project Manager, Quality, Sourcing, Operations, and external manufacturing partners.
The CAD Designer will translate approved engineering requirements, customer specifications, and design inputs into clear, manufacturable SolidWorks models and drawings for carbon- and stainless-steel pressure vessels. The role will also support drawing release, revision control, supplier technical questions, PPAP and First Article Inspection documentation, and standardized drawing practices that enable the OSP model to scale efficiently.
The ideal candidate is highly accurate, organized, and experienced in mechanical drafting for fabricated products. Success in this role requires strong SolidWorks capability, practical knowledge of manufacturing drawings and GD&T, disciplined configuration control, and the ability to work effectively with engineers, quality teams, and outside fabricators.
Responsibilities
- Create and revise SolidWorks 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings for pressure vessels, tanks, components, weldments, and assemblies.
- Translate approved engineering calculations, customer specifications, sketches, redlines, and design inputs into accurate fabrication and assembly drawings under the direction of the ASME Design Engineer.
- Develop and maintain bills of material, weld details, nozzle orientations, dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, material callouts, and fabrication notes required for production.
- Prepare customer approval drawings, shop drawings, supplier drawing packages, standard-product drawings, and configured-to-order documentation for OSP projects.
- Manage drawing revisions, engineering changes, redlines, as-built updates, and document release requirements using established PDM/PLM and document-control processes.
- Coordinate with the Design Engineer, Project Manager, Quality, Sourcing, Operations, and OSP suppliers to resolve drawing questions and support on-time technical releases.
- Support design-for-manufacturing reviews by incorporating approved supplier feedback while maintaining design intent, code requirements, and controlled revisions.
- Prepare ballooned drawings and support identification of critical characteristics, dimensional requirements, and inspection-plan inputs for PPAP and First Article Inspection activities.
- Partner with Quality to support inspection documentation, including dimensional layouts, inspection points, material requirements, weld/NDE notes, pressure-test notes, and required production records.
