We're looking for an experienced AME Equipment Engineer, General Assembly to lead the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge manufacturing equipment and automation systems for our vehicle's General Assembly. This is a critical leadership role that will drive the strategy for a new era of vehicle manufacturing, ensuring that our assembly lines are the most efficient, safe, and robust in the world. You'll be a hands-on technical expert, leading a team to build and scale production from concept to high-volume manufacturing. If you have a deep understanding of automotive assembly processes and a history of delivering complex, high-volume equipment solutions in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
- Strategic Equipment Leadership: Define and implement the long-term process and equipment strategy for our vehicle General Assembly lines, including conveyance, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), robotic fastening, fluid fill, and specialized torque control tooling.
- Full Lifecycle Management: Lead the entire equipment lifecycle: from concept, specification, vendor selection, design review, fabrication, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and continuous improvement.
- New Facility & Line Setup: Lead the process and flow planning, layout, and installation of new General Assembly lines within existing and/or new facilities. This includes space optimization, utility requirements, and ensuring seamless integration of equipment.
- Technical Expertise: Act as the technical expert for all General Assembly equipment, applying deep knowledge of automation, robotics, machine vision, and controls systems to solve complex challenges.
- Vendor Management: Partner with equipment suppliers, leading technical discussions, negotiating specifications, and ensuring on-time delivery and performance.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) & Assembly (DFA): Lead the vehicle design and product engineering teams to optimize vehicle designs for manufacturability and assembly on automated equipment, reducing complexity and increasing quality.
