Principal Software Engineer, Pub Admin
UK & Ireland, United Kingdom, London
Sony Music’s Product, Design, Engineering & Global Operations (PDEGO) organisation is seeking a Principal Software Engineer within our Pub Admin product team in our London King’s Cross office (hybrid/three days a week).
Pub Admin (Publishing Administration) is our future product for a unified, modern rights platform - where our engineers help transform the complex domain of music publishing administration into simple, scalable, high-performance product solutions for Sony Music’s global creator community. You’ll shape what we build as well as how we build it, working directly with product and design on problems where the right answer isn’t yet known.
What you'll do:
- Work cross-functionally across multiple teams in our Royalty Accounting organisation to build and own a new business vertical that will help rights holders register, manage, and monetize their catalogues worldwide
- Lead design, implementation, and scaling of complex distributed systems end-to-end from early-stage ideation to market
- Partner with product management and design to understand client and stakeholder needs, challenge requirements where necessary, help decide what not to build, and turn the decisions into clear technical direction
- Design, communicate and execute a vision in collaboration with the wider organisation
- Contribute to all tiers of our architecture to produce high-quality and robust user experiences
- Mentor engineers across all levels and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and engineering best practices
The ideal candidate has:
-
Driven technical strategy and alignment across multiple teams as a principal engineer or equivalent
-
Measured success by user and business outcomes, not only uptime and latency
-
Designed systems to ensure testability, reliability, and observability at cloud scale
-
Shaped a product roadmap or influenced prioritisation, not just delivered against one
-
Led data modelling decisions for complex domains, grounded in user and business impact, that adapted as requirements changed
-
Deep expertise in at least one database technology (we use Neo4j, MySQL, Snowflake, and OpenSearch)
-
Worked extensively with microservices, APIs, and related standards such as REST, HTTP, and OAuth
