TEGNA, the parent company of 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, is hiring a national/company-wide Photojournalist/Producer for a unique role. This photojournalist will travel the country and cinematically capture, produce, and edit stories that highlight the best of the human spirit. This photojournalist is also a special projects producer who builds trust quickly with diverse interview subjects, directs on-camera talent with care and respect, develops story arcs, and produces and edits NAT sound segments. The ideal candidate is a master of camera systems, field audio, lighting, and post-production software.
These stories will stream and broadcast nationally on TEGNA-owned TV stations and apps. The photojournalist will travel at least one week a month to different communities across the country with a partner who specializes in this kind of reporting.
The ideal applicant for this position is a master at capturing moments and a deeply empathetic, compassionate creative storyteller. We are searching for someone who wants to create memorable stories that attract and inspire audiences on every viewing platform.
Responsibilities:
• Produce original and innovative, enterprise video stories that captivate, evoke emotion and tell compelling stories.
- Conceptualize, shoot and edit highly creative video content and still photography.
- Co-produce and edit a monthly 30-to-60-minute episode.
- Research stories, pitch ideas, scout locations, and coordinate travel or logistics before the shoot.
- Handle real-time disruptions, schedule shifts, and adjust storytelling angles as needed or as unscripted events unfold
- Format and export final cuts for various channels, including social-first vertical video (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts), web, or streaming/broadcast.
- Operate cinema-grade cameras, audio gear, lighting kits, and stabilization tools.
- Edit video and audio using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or DaVinci Resolve, including color grading and sound design.
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
