About TEGNA
TEGNA Inc. helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.
WTLV/WJXX-TV Jacksonville, the TEGNA-owned NBC/ABC affiliate in Jacksonville, is looking for an organized, creative and forward-thinking Special Projects Producer to help lead some of the biggest stories and community initiatives on the First Coast.
This is a unique position for a journalist who thrives on planning, collaboration and execution. The Special Projects Producer will coordinate high-profile coverage including elections, major court cases, severe weather planning, station initiatives and special programming, while also booking engaging guests and segments for First Coast News and First Coast Living. We're looking for someone who can see beyond the daily news cycle, anticipate opportunities, build relationships and bring together multiple teams to create memorable coverage that serves our community. Producing experience is highly valued, but this role is ideal for anyone with strong editorial judgment, exceptional organization and a passion for bringing big ideas to life.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate and execute station-wide special coverage, including elections, major trials, breaking news events and other high-impact stories.
• Plan and organize First Coast News' signature community initiatives, including 12 Who Care, Stuff the Bus, the K9s For Warriors Telethon and other station events.
• Book compelling guests, experts and community voices for First Coast News and First Coast Living.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, local leaders and subject matter experts.
• Develop long-range coverage plans and event timelines while coordinating logistics across multiple departments.
• Partner with newsroom leadership, producers, reporters, digital teams and marketing to execute strategic coverage plans.
• Research, develop and pitch enterprise story ideas, franchise content and special programming opportunities.
• Write clear production plans, briefing materials and supporting content for broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.
• Help coordinate live event coverage across broadcast, streaming and social media platforms.
• Ensure projects stay on schedule while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Continuously look for new opportunities to showcase impactful storytelling and strengthen First Coast News' connection with the community.
• Challenge traditional ways of covering major events by developing innovative storytelling and audience engagement strategies.
