Zarminali Pediatrics is building the nation's leading pediatric multispecialty group, focused on supporting families to shape healthy futures for their children – from birth through adulthood – by completely transforming the way pediatric care is delivered nationwide. We are tackling today's challenges of increased administrative burden on clinicians and a siloed approach to pediatric care through intentional design of care delivery, enhanced by leading technology and collaborative, expert care teams.
Our name, inspired by our founder's daughter's name – Zarmina – means “something that is more precious to you than gold”. We couldn’t think of anything that better represents the way parents and caregivers hold the relationship with their children as the most valuable gift, and how we at Zarminali approach care for each child with equal reverence.
We strive for a healthier future for pediatric patients and a happier future for pediatric clinicians nationwide, and we are looking for people to join us in achieving this vision. If you are eager to join a growth stage company and be part of the early team that is shaping the foundation of both the company and the delivery of pediatric care, then this opportunity might be for you!
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Pediatric Phlebotomist at Zarminali Pediatrics, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care by performing blood draws, specimen collection, and laboratory testing for infants, children, and adolescents.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing a safe, comfortable, and positive experience for our patients and families while ensuring specimens are collected, processed, and documented accurately. You will also support day-to-day laboratory operations, including point-of-care testing, specimen preparation, and maintaining an organized and efficient clinical environment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on phlebotomy experience, strong technical skills, and a passion for working with pediatric patients. We are looking for someone who is confident performing blood draws, patient-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient pediatric setting.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Phlebotomy & Specimen Collection
- Perform blood draws and specimen collection for infants, children, and adolescents using safe, age-appropriate phlebotomy techniques.
- Utilize venipuncture and capillary collection techniques based on patient age, clinical needs, and established protocols.
- Create a calm, reassuring environment for pediatric patients and families, particularly those who may be anxious about needles or blood draws.
- Collect urine, swabs, and other specimens as ordered by providers and in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Accurately label, process, store, and prepare specimens for in-house testing or transport to external laboratories.
- Ensure proper specimen handling and maintain accuracy throughout the collection and processing process.
- Document specimen collection, laboratory orders, and results accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Laboratory Testing & Operations
- Perform approved point-of-care and CLIA-waived laboratory testing in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support daily laboratory operations, including specimen processing, preparation, and coordination with external laboratories.
- Monitor pending laboratory orders and assist with tracking specimens and results.
- Complete required quality-control procedures and maintain accurate laboratory documentation and logs.
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked blood draw and laboratory areas.
- Monitor laboratory supplies, collection materials, and expiration dates, communicating replenishment needs as appropriate.
- Follow established infection prevention, OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety requirements.
Patient Care & Team Collaboration
- Provide a compassionate, patient-centered experience for children and families throughout the specimen collection process.
- Explain blood draws and laboratory procedures to patients and caregivers in a clear, age-appropriate, and reassuring manner.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, and other clinical team members to ensure efficient patient care and workflow.
- Demonstrate patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills when working with children of varying ages and developmental needs.
- Assist with additional clinical support responsibilities within scope of practice and training as needed.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited phlebotomy or related clinical training program preferred.
- Previous hands-on phlebotomy experience required, including proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
- Pediatric phlebotomy experience strongly preferred, particularly experience drawing blood from infants, toddlers, and young children.
- 1+ years of phlebotomy or clinical specimen collection experience preferred, ideally within a pediatric, primary care, family medicine, urgent care, or outpatient laboratory setting.
- Current phlebotomy certification preferred or required based on applicable state regulations.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Experience performing point-of-care or CLIA-waived laboratory testing preferred.
- Strong understanding of blood collection techniques, specimen handling, infection prevention, and laboratory safety practices.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and laboratory systems preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to specimen accuracy, patient safety, and quality care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to put children and caregivers at ease during blood draws and other procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented pediatric clinic while maintaining a compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
