TerraPower is a nuclear technology company based in Bellevue, Washington. At its core, the company is working to raise living standards globally through a more affordable, secure, and environmentally friendly form of nuclear energy along with innovations in medical isotopes to improve human health. In 2006, TerraPower originated with Bill Gates and a group of like-minded visionaries who evaluated the fundamental challenges to raising living standards around the world. They recognized energy access was crucial to the health and economic well-being of communities and decided that the private sector needed to take action and create energy sources that would advance global energy deployment. TerraPower’s mission is to be a world leader in new nuclear technologies, while developing innovators and future leaders in the nuclear field. As a result, the company’s activities in the fields of nuclear energy and related sciences are yielding significant innovations in the safety and economics of nuclear power, hybrid energy and medical applications – all for significant human health benefits.”
TerraPower is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on advanced nuclear reactor research and development and influencing change within the nuclear power landscape and bringing forward the critical production of medical isotopes. TerraPower is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected Veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
Fuel Fabrication Senior Manager
TerraPower is seeking a Fuel Fabrication Senior Manager to join the Natrium Fuel Manufacturing team. Reporting to the Director of Fuel Manufacturing, this position will lead the development and delivery of fuel fabrication capabilities required to support the Natrium initial fuel load and subsequent production.
The Fuel Fabrication Senior Manager will be accountable for the technical integration of HALEU feedstock metallization, fuel-component manufacturing, fuel assembly fabrication, process qualification, and production scale-up. The role will provide technical leadership for facility design, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness while partnering with project delivery, Quality, Licensing, Supply Chain, Operations, and external fabrication partners.
This position requires an experienced nuclear manufacturing leader capable of managing multidisciplinary teams, directing complex technical work, and integrating facility, process, product, supplier, regulatory, and schedule requirements.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of the integrated strategy for HALEU metallization, fuel-component manufacturing, and final fuel assembly fabrication.
Provide Fuel Manufacturing technical leadership for the design, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness of metallization and fuel fabrication facilities.
Serve as the engineering owner for fuel products and manufacturing processes from metal feedstock through completed fuel assemblies, including technical oversight of requirements, specifications, drawings, process changes, and technical acceptance.
Lead the development, demonstration, scale-up, and qualification of manufacturing processes required to achieve production-rate, quality, safety, and reliability objectives.
Collaborate with Quality to ensure fabrication activities, suppliers, records, and deliverables comply with applicable quality-assurance and fuel acceptance requirements.
Interface with reactor design, neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, materials, and safety-analysis teams to ensure fuel material properties, manufacturing tolerances, and process variability are appropriately represented in design and safety analyses.
Collaborate with testing and operations teams to use laboratory and pilot-scale activities to advance manufacturing maturity.
Provide technical direction and oversight to fuel fabrication partners, vendors, and contractors, including supplier qualification, source surveillance, technical issue resolution, nonconformance disposition, and corrective action.
Maintain visibility into manufacturing and supplier performance using appropriate schedule, quality, readiness, and production metrics.
Identify and proactively mitigate technical, schedule, quality, capacity, and supply-chain risks. Develop and execute recovery plans when performance deviates from program objectives.
Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team, with accountability for performance management, goal setting, technical capability, and career development.
Develop and execute staffing, organizational-development, and succession plans that support program scale-up and long-term operational continuity.
Promote a strong nuclear safety culture, disciplined decision-making, continuous learning, and application of nuclear-industry and advanced-manufacturing best practices.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve safety, quality, manufacturability, process capability, schedule performance, and cost.
