Schrödinger is on the cutting edge of computer-aided drug discovery and materials science. Our software platform continues to revolutionize the design of therapeutics and materials, and we leverage this platform to advance a pipeline of internal, wholly-owned drug discovery programs. We also license our software to leading biopharmaceutical and industrial companies, academic institutions, and government laboratories worldwide.
We are seeking a Developer Experience (DevX) Engineer to join our team and focus on the frameworks, tooling and infrastructure that our application engineers build on. The role covers maintaining shared frontend frameworks and testing utilities, owning build tooling and dependency upgrades, supporting our move toward a microservices architecture, and keeping our CI/CD pipelines reliable. You will work closely with senior engineers and architects, and you'll be trusted to deliver independently against the technical direction they set.
Key Responsibilities
- Frontend Frameworks: Develop and maintain shared internal frameworks used across the application, such as state management and UI scaffolding.
- Testing Utilities: Build and improve unit testing utilities and patterns that make tests easier to write and more reliable.
- Build Tooling: Own build configurations, and plan and carry out upgrades and migrations across bundlers, package managers, Node.js versions and linting tools.
- Architecture: Help break the application up into independently deployable services by implementing designs from senior engineers and architects.
- Pipeline Maintenance: Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines, find the root causes of build and test failures, and improve pipeline speed and reliability.
Requirements
- 3 to 4 years of total experience.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, plus working knowledge of Java or Python.
- Frontend: Strong experience with a modern frontend framework, preferably React, including an understanding of how it works under the hood.
- Tooling: Hands-on experience configuring and upgrading frontend build tools such as webpack, Vite or Rspack, plus package managers (npm, pnpm, Yarn) and linters (ESLint, Stylelint).
- Testing Frameworks: Familiarity with modern unit and integration testing frameworks such as Jest, JUnit, pytest or Playwright.
- CI/CD Experience: Proficiency with Jenkins or GitHub Actions. Experience with more than one CI provider is a strong plus.
- Microservices: Experience building or maintaining services in a microservices architecture.
- Server Side: Comfortable reading, debugging and changing backend services.
