About Tin Can
Tin Can is building a safer, simpler way for kids to connect — without smartphones. We're creating screen-free, delightful devices and services that let families call the people who matter most, free from the noise of today's digital world.
We're building a bold, authentic, nostalgic, and kinda quirky brand that resonates with folks who want something simpler & better for their kids than the tech-infused lives we're currently living (and who have a sense of humor about it).
The Role
The magic moment in our Communities program is when a whole class of kids can suddenly call each other — no screens, just “hey, want to come over?” Getting there takes a parent or school willing to rally everyone, and every order, fundraiser, and directory has to land the way we promised it would. We’re looking for a Community Experience Specialist to make sure it does. You’ll be the first point of contact for the schools, PTAs, and parent groups who reach out to us, and the person who keeps their group orders, fundraisers, donations, and community directories moving from first hello to first call.
This is a full-time, in-person role on our Communities team, reporting to the Head of Communities and working day to day with our Community Experience Manager, plus Growth, Finance, Ops, and Brand. It’s a great fit for someone early in their career who’s ambitious and a self-starter: you’ll learn our playbook, run it with care across hundreds of communities, and have real room to try new ideas and shape how it grows. You’re the reason a PTA president’s first email gets a fast, warm answer. You’re the one who makes a community order feel personal. This role focuses on the day-to-day community experience; events and our Connector program sit with our Community Experience Manager.
What You’ll Do
You’ll run the day-to-day experience for hundreds of communities, including (but not limited to):
-
Inbound inquiries — be the first, friendly response for schools, PTAs, and parent groups who reach out through our communities inbox and Zendesk; answer their questions, explain how Tin Can communities work, and help them get started
-
Community group orders — guide each community through its group order, from first conversation to first call, and keep it on track until phones are in families’ hands
-
Fundraising & donation requests — review and approve fundraising and donation requests against our guidelines, following up on the details so each community gets a quick answer
-
Community directories — set up and maintain each community’s directory so kids can call their approved friends and classmates from day one
-
Systems & tracking — keep every community’s status current across our CRM, order, and directory tools, report weekly on inquiries, orders, approval turnaround, and response times, and suggest ways to make the process smoother
-
Feedback loops — notice the questions and requests that keep coming up, and bring them back to the team so we can fix them at the source, and pass along great community stories to Brand
-
White-glove experience — ensure every touchpoint reflects the warmth, simplicity, and joy that Tin Can stands for
What We’re Looking For
-
Ambitious and a self-starter; you take ownership of your work and look for ways to do more
-
Someone who runs a process well and isn’t afraid to rethink it; you notice where things get stuck, try new ideas, and share what you learn
-
A natural relationship-builder who genuinely loves people and earns trust quickly
-
Excited to work in person; at the office, on community visits, and at the occasional event
-
Highly organized and detail-oriented; you can juggle lots of requests at once, and nothing falls through the cracks
-
Quick to learn new tools like CRMs, Shopify, and spreadsheets; you keep the data clean because you know someone’s order depends on it
-
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; you know how to make people feel welcome and heard
-
A bias toward action, a scrappy get-it-done mentality, and a habit of asking how we get Tin Can to more families
-
Empathy for the families we serve and a genuine belief in Tin Can’s mission
-
A genuine interest in schools, parents, and family-focused communities
-
Bonus: you’ve been involved with schools, PTAs, or parent groups, whether through work, volunteering, or your own school
Why Join Tin Can
-
We’re building tech that protects childhood: We’re on a quest to give kids a more analog childhood — one with real conversations, real connection, and way less screen time. No doomscrolling, data mining, or dopamine traps — just a simpler, better way for kids to stay in touch. This is a rare opportunity to build something that truly matters.
-
You’ll be the front door to our communities: Communities is one of our fastest-growing channels, and every school or parent group that reaches out starts with you. It’s a chance to learn how a fast-growing program runs, and to grow with it.
-
Small, high-trust team: Every company says “team,” but at Tin Can it means something different. We’re a small, mission-driven group that genuinely has each other’s backs — professionally and personally. You’ll be joining a tight-knit crew where your ideas and instincts matter from day one.
-
Room to explore, not just execute: You’ll have the space to explore new ideas, challenge assumptions, and shape a community experience that reflects our values of trust, simplicity, and care.
If you’re excited by the idea of helping a whole school of kids pick up the phone and call their friends, please reach out. We can’t wait to meet someone who’s ready to jump in, sweat the details, and help us grow.
