Deputy MLRO

Since being founded in 2018, Copper has been building the standard for institutional digital asset infrastructure with a focus on custody, collateral management, and prime services.

Led by Amar Kuchinad, Copper's Global CEO, the firm provides a comprehensive suite of custody, trading and settlement solutions that reduce counterparty risk and bring greater capital and operational efficiency to digital asset markets. At the heart of Copper's offering is Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology – the gold standard in secure custody. Copper’s multi-award winning custody system is unique in that it can be connected to centralised exchanges, DeFi applications and even staking pools without the assets leaving the custody.

Built on top of this state-of-the-art custody, ClearLoop is the first solution in the market that overcomes a growing industry challenge; counterparty risk with exchanges. This solution underpins a full prime services offering, connecting global exchanges, and enabling customers to trade and settle directly from the safety of their MPC-secured wallets. By reducing settlement time for transfers to a few milliseconds (without blockchain network dependency) and offering enhanced security measures, ClearLoop is rapidly reshaping the way asset managers trade and manage capital.

In addition to industry-leading security certifications, Copper has one of the strongest insurance coverages in the industry from an A+ rated insurer, positioning the firm as the partner of choice for institutions seeking to safeguard their assets.

Department Purpose:

Copper’s Compliance Team helps ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and supervisory expectations. The team supports Copper’s business as it operates in a complex and evolving regulatory landscape, translating regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, governance processes and internal controls while enabling responsible growth in the digital assets sector.

Role Purpose:

The Compliance Officer Switzerland’s primary role is to serve as Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (Deputy MLRO) for Copper Markets Switzerland, supporting the MLRO Switzerland in the discharge of their AML oversight responsibilities, as well as the local team, while contributing to the wider global compliance programme of Copper Technologies (UK) Limited. The role supports the maintenance and further development of an effective, risk-based compliance framework, with a particular focus on AML, KYC, sanctions, regulatory reporting and compliance controls.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as deputy to the MLRO Switzerland, supporting day-to-day AML oversight and assuming relevant responsibilities during their absence to ensure continuity of compliance oversight.
• Act as a key local compliance contact for the Swiss business, providing practical guidance on AML, sanctions, regulatory reporting, governance and risk management matters, and ensuring that local regulatory obligations are implemented effectively in day-to-day operations.
• Support engagement and communication with the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROS), including the preparation, filing and follow-up of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and other required regulatory submissions.
• Lead the end-to-end coordination of external audits and support the implementation of corrective action plans in response to audit outcomes, internally identified issues, and internal compliance reviews and monitoring activities.
• Ensure that material risks and issues are appropriately escalated to the Head of Compliance Switzerland in a timely and structured manner.
• Contribute to the development, refinement and enhancement of compliance strategies, policies, procedures and controls at both local and global levels, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and best practices.
• Assist in maintaining the operational effectiveness of Copper’s transaction monitoring systems and related protocols, ensuring that potential illicit activity is identified and addressed in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards.
• Provide compliance advisory support to teams such as Product and Strategy, ensuring that business initiatives align with applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.
• Monitor and assess regulatory and supervisory developments in Switzerland and relevant global markets, helping to identify potential impacts on the business and supporting timely implementation of required changes.
• Facilitate training and ongoing education for internal stakeholders, including onboarding new team members and reinforcing awareness of compliance, risk and regulatory obligations across the organisation.

Skills and Experience:

Essential

• Senior-level compliance experience, including several years in AML and KYC-focused compliance roles.
• Strong technical compliance skills, including the ability to assess AML/KYC risks, oversee client due diligence and escalation processes, support transaction monitoring and suspicious activity reporting, and translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures and controls.
• Experience in regulatory compliance in Switzerland, preferably gained in the digital assets sector or within a regulated financial environment such as a bank, authorised asset manager, audit firm or consulting firm; prior exposure to digital assets is highly desirable.
• Sound knowledge of applicable Swiss, EU and UK regulatory regimes, rules and regulations.
• A proactive, hands-on mindset with the drive to make an impact, challenge the status quo, and help shape the Swiss compliance function in a dynamic and evolving environment.
• Experience engaging with senior management and participating in executive committee and board meetings, including the ability to present compliance matters clearly, confidently and in a risk-based manner.
• Fluency in German and English; additional languages are an asset.

Desirable

• Knowledge of financial markets, investment products and asset classes, combined with curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to challenge existing ways of working and help drive meaningful change.
• Experience working in fast-paced, evolving or scaling environments, with the ability to balance regulatory rigor with pragmatic business enablement.
• Experience contributing to process improvements, control enhancements or change initiatives within a compliance or risk function.
• A degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline; a legal, law-related or compliance qualification is desirable.
