Would you like to play a key role in strengthening effective 1st Line of Defence (LoD) controls management within Danske Bank? Are you motivated by working in a regulatory context where analytical thinking, independent judgement, leadership and strong stakeholder interaction are essential?
We are looking for a Chief Business Risk & Controls Officer to join the Controls Office within Business Controls and Product Management (BCPM). The role sits at the intersection of regulatory expertise, control execution and change delivery. You will combine hands-on control operation and reporting with end-to-end ownership of selected areas, independently driving initiatives and improvements across controls, ways of working and stakeholder collaboration as regulation and business needs evolve.
About us - a central part of supporting the business
The Business Controls and Product Management (BCPM) department plays a central role in supporting the business units in achieving their strategic objectives, with reporting lines to the heads of Large Corporates & Institutions, Business Customers, and Personal Customers.
The Controls Office is home to the 1st LoD control operation and control testing activities within BCPM. As part of the Regulatory Risk Testing & Assurance team, you will work closely with colleagues across BCPM as well as a broad set of stakeholders in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence. We focus on strengthening the control environment by ensuring consistency, transparency, and high quality in how regulatory risks are managed through controls, with an emphasis on regulations such as MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, EMIR, and SFTR.
The position is located in Warsaw, and does not include a relocation allowance.
You will:
- Run, monitor and report on regulatory controls, ensuring accurate, timely and audit-ready outputs, and continuously improve control performance in collaboration with relevant BCPM teams
- Interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements and ensure that control design and outputs are aligned with applicable regulations, particularly MiFID II / MiFIR or Dodd-Frank, alongside other relevant regulatory frameworks
- Analyse control outcomes to identify issues, root causes and improvement opportunities, and investigate complex cases using a structured problem-solving approach
- Lead initiatives and take end-to-end ownership of selected areas and deliverables, independently shaping plans and priorities, coordinating stakeholders, driving execution and ensuring effective closure
- Provide leadership across cross-functional work, engaging and influencing stakeholders to clarify requirements, strengthen risk ownership and drive practical implementation of control improvements
- Exercise sound judgement when working independently, escalating material issues, trends and control outcomes to senior management and relevant governance forums
About you:
You bring experience, initiative and sound judgement, and you are comfortable taking a leading role in a complex regulatory environment with many stakeholders. You can work independently, create structure where guidance is limited and mobilise others around a shared outcome. More specifically, you:
- Bring a strong track record in non-financial risk management, with solid understanding of financial products and end-to-end business processes
- Have strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and are comfortable interpreting and applying complex legislation in a controls and risk management context; experience with at least one of MiFID II / MiFIR or Dodd-Frank is required. Experience across additional regulatory areas, such as EMIR or SFTR, is considered an advantage
- Have strong technical capabilities, including the ability to read, write and optimise SQL queries used for control purposes
- Have experience operating in a senior individual contributor role, combining hands-on operational delivery with ownership of projects, regulatory change initiatives and continuous improvements across multiple stakeholders.
- Are comfortable working independently and are experienced in analysing large datasets, validating outputs and performing root-cause analysis, approaching complex problems in a structured and pragmatic way where guidance is limited
- Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing, and are able to explain complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Build strong relationships and work effectively across the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence, Legal and other key functions, while constructively challenging stakeholders and maintaining momentum on shared priorities
- Are fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of a Nordic language or Polish is considered an advantage
Your job function (position) in the job contract will be Risk & Control.
