Te Tūranga | About the Role:
This role provides critical IT support services across Silver Fern Farms' Pacific plant in Hastings.
You will be responsible for supporting a wide range of technologies including hardware, applications, site production systems, CCTV, physical and software security systems, telephony, and networking infrastructure.
While specialist teams provide expertise across these platforms, this position acts as the site's frontline IT support, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and users receive excellent service. You will also help support the IT aspects of Operational Technology (OT) systems that underpin key production processes, working alongside site engineers and operational teams.
This is a hands-on role supporting both office-based and manufacturing environments, so you'll be comfortable working directly with users and spending time on the processing floor. The role also contributes to technology projects, user training initiatives, and participation in a scheduled on-call roster.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist, coordinate, and perform hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of desktops, servers, and peripheral devices
- Install and upgrade software and hardware, implement backups, and configure systems, applications, networking equipment, and OT devices
- Proactively engage with end users to resolve support issues and improve their technology experience
- Promote and contribute to continuous improvement of IT service delivery across the site
- Provide technical support, fault diagnosis, and resolution for IT systems, services, and hardware used throughout the Pacific plant
- Support the delivery of local and national IT projects

Key skills and experience include:
- Experience providing technical support for desktops, servers, printers, and networking equipment
- Knowledge of desktop and server operating systems, particularly Microsoft Windows environments
- Experience supporting Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft 365
- Strong interpersonal skills, including rapport building, active listening, problem-solving, and documentation
- Working knowledge of IT troubleshooting tools, diagnostic techniques, and support processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A flexible approach and willingness to participate in on-call support as required
- The ability to work effectively within both office and manufacturing environments

Responsibilities
- Provide first-line technical support to end-users, resolving issues and queries promptly.
- Manage and coordinate the work of external IT contractors, ensuring efficient service delivery.
- Implement and maintain network infrastructure, including servers, firewalls, and routers.
- Perform regular system backups and ensure data integrity and security.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide tailored solutions.
- Document and maintain accurate records of IT assets, configurations, and changes.
- Conduct user training sessions to enhance IT literacy and promote best practices.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, suggesting improvements.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures, maintaining a secure environment.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in IT support, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, networking concepts, and hardware troubleshooting.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with project management principles and experience in managing small-scale IT projects.
- A proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different sites as required.
- Any relevant IT certifications, such as CompTIA A+, will be considered an advantage.
