Summary
The Lead Engineer, Mechanical Design develops new mechanical systems/modules and maintains existing designs. Research mechanical concepts and create system solutions using 3D modeling and simulation software. Complete calculations and test, validate, and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the mechanical system that they have designed.
The Lead Engineer, Mechanical Design works with cross functional teams of other engineers, customers, supply chain and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
-
Design, modify, and implement complex mechanical systems using cross-functional engineering inputs, FEA/CFD analysis, cost metrics, and DFx principles to develop detailed 3D models and manufacturing schematics.
-
Perform rigorous quantitative calculations, including structural strength, stress, and tolerance stack-up analysis, to validate proposed concepts prior to final drawing release.
-
Execute innovative technical solutions across multiple engineering domains while leading small-scale projects, resolving complex cross-functional architectural challenges, and reviewing the work of fellow engineers.
-
Finalize component designs for fabrication, consolidate final engineering specifications, and release detailed blueprints and manufacturing prints to the production department.
-
Provide hands-on technical guidance, oversight, and hardware troubleshooting throughout prototype construction, assembly, and the final manufacturing lifecycle.
-
Present technical illustrations, design frameworks, and engineering documentation to leadership, internal teams, and global clients to secure collaborative alignment and formal authorization.
-
Review and translate customer technical documentation with minimal direction, performing necessary investigative research and validation to establish precise product specifications.
