The First-Party and Synthetic Fraud Specialized Analyst is responsible for identifying, investigating, and mitigating complex fraud risks related to first-party fraud, synthetic identity fraud, application fraud, and organized fraud across retail and small business products. The role conducts detailed investigations and end-to-end account reviews using customer, transactional, digital, credit, and fraud intelligence to identify exploitation paths, emerging trends, and control vulnerabilities. Working closely with cross-functional partners, the Analyst supports fraud loss mitigation, strengthens detection and prevention capabilities, and ensures investigative activities are completed in accordance with Bank policies, regulatory requirements, and risk standards.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Investigate complex first-party, synthetic identity, application, account takeover, and organized fraud cases, including end-to-end account reviews to determine exploitation paths and applicable fraud typologies.
- Analyze alerts, referrals, customer activity, onboarding information, device and digital identifiers, credit bureau information, payment details, transaction patterns, account history, and other available case data to identify fraud indicators and emerging threats.
- Identify indicators of synthetic identity creation, identity manipulation and farming, tradeline abuse, bust-out activity, credit profile fabrication, mule activity, and relationships between identity elements and external data sources.
- Determine appropriate risk-mitigation actions within approved authorities, including blocking accounts, reducing card limits, placing holds, initiating payment holds or recalls, coordinating recovery efforts, and escalating matters as required.
- Conduct enhanced due diligence and complete timely, accurate case decisions, investigation notes, and fraud reports that clearly document findings, decision rationale, actions taken, referrals, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with Fraud Detection, Application Fraud, Fraud Strategy, Fraud Analytics, Investigations, AML/ATF, Compliance, Operations, branches, Contact Centres, other financial institutions, and business partners to validate suspicious activity and coordinate fraud disruption efforts.
- Identify and escalate emerging fraud patterns, device or digital indicators, recurring commonalities, control gaps, and process vulnerabilities to support broader detection, prevention, and fraud-intelligence initiatives.
- Respond to large-scale fraud events by helping identify potential points of compromise and impacted accounts and taking timely action to prevent or limit financial losses.
